MARCEL: an extra large round mirror joins our collection!

Our latest round mirror design, Marcel, is available in four stunning new finishes, and bespoke sizes up to an extra large 115cm diameter.

As with all of our mirrors, the Marcel is designed and handmade in our studio. It is made from wood and hand finished as mentioned below; with bespoke finishes available on request.

Four stunning new finishes

Black & Gold

Layers of gesso and black bole are hand-applied to the entire frame. Once sanded and polished, we lay gold leaf onto the front face of the frame.

Red Lacquer

A unique red hue is hand applied to the frame and lacquered to produce a deep, high gloss finish.

Black Lacquer

A black hue is hand applied to the frame and lacquered to produce a deep, high gloss finish.

White & Gold

Natural gesso is applied to the frame, polished until silky smooth, and then we lay gold leaf onto the front face of the frame. A coat of protective wax is the final step.

What is a gesso finish?

We make our gesso from scratch, based on a traditional Italian recipe of gelatine and whiting. Applied to the frame by brush, whilst warm, it is built up in multiple layers and then, once dry (at least 48 hours later), scraped, sanded and polished. This is a time- and labour-intensive process, yet so worth it! Nothing can compare with the subtle sheen of a polished gesso finish. Its beauty lies in its exquisite smoothness, it is mirror-like to the touch.

What sizes does the Marcel Mirror come in?

If you’re on the hunt for an extra large round mirror, our Marcel mirror will fit the bill. It is available, as standard, in three sizes:

• extra large (115cm dia.)
• large (94cm dia.)
• medium (68cm dia.)

All of our mirrors are made-to-order and the Marcel mirror can be made to most sizes, depending on using flat mirror or convex mirror, to fulfill your size requirements.

Do you make the Marcel Mirror in bespoke finishes?

Yes, we can make this mirror to your own finish specification. And we don’t charge the earth, just a fair price based on cost of materials and studio time depending on complexity of the finish.
